So, I bought my Mac Book Pro (MBP) 2 years ago when the Intel Macs were first announced at Mac World 2006. In fact, I ordered mine when they were announced, and had to wait several weeks for it to ship. I love my MBP – it was not my first mac, but it was my first cool and capable one…the macs I had used before were an iBook I had for my graduate program at Virginia Tech, an iMac I had at work, and a long time before that a macintosh (yes, that long ago).
After having my MBP for just over 2 years now, I ma in need of a good upgrade. Well, last week i splurged (after doing my tax returns), and went out and bought a Mac Pro 8-core! I purchased a 750GB drive and 8 GB of RAM which should be arriving via fed-ex sometime today. (just installed the 8GB or RAM…sent the 2GB that came with the MP to a friend…it is smokin fast now)
Even with the default 2GB of Apple’s overpriced RAM this thing is sooo fast… Ripping a full length DVD with handbrake at the latest AppleTV preset takes only 20 minutes!!! On my MBP this would have taken at least 3 hours…no exaggeration.
Needless to say, I am thrilled with the new Mac Pro, and will continue to update you here on my findings.
